Tendo lançado demos importantes como "...the Darkness... the Wrapping Tranquillity..."

BACKGROUND INFO

Formed in the mid-nineties, ELIZABETHAN WALPURGA hail from Pernambuco and quickly became one of the most respected national underground bands.

Having released such important works as "... the Darkness ... the Wrapping Tranquillity ..." (1997) and "Desire" (2001), the band returned last year after a hiatus for the launch of "Walpurgisnacht” This disc contains new versions of the band’s classic tracks and also some previously unreleased material as well.

"Walpurgisnacht" was officially released by the band for digital download on 30/10/2016 and the CD was released in April 2017 by Shinigami Records.

ANALYSIS

One of the things that interests me the most in this album is the introduction.

I know a lot of people do not like it, skipping straight to track two. However, introductions have always served me as a preparation for the upcoming ambience. And "Exordium" is one of the most interesting introductions I've heard for a long time. Precisely for creating this intense ambience for "Walpurgisnacht".

Imagine then when "Vampyre" bursts through the speakers? The first few seconds show the influence of Extreme Metal that the band has then the sound of guitars in the NWOBHM style appears. A classic track that was already awesome in its form of a first-take demo. "Vampyre" is an excellent calling card for those who do not know this veteran band.

As we play the album, we get the sensation that what we have here is one of the best ambassadors of Brazilian National Metal. The guitar work done by Breno and Erick Lira is simply mind-blowing! and having the security of the excellent rhythmic base, orchestrated by Renato Matos (bass) and Arthur Lira (drums).

In fact, these guys are responsible for the heavy footprint that the album has, in the style of other classic albums of the genre.

HIGH POINTS

It would be a Herculean task to find a high point in "Walpurgisnacht" because each time I play the album; a new track becomes my favourite.

There is no denying that the classic "Vampyre", "Infernorium" (which features an interesting Lyric video with the participation of guitarist Nenel Lucana - Evocati - additional vocals) and "The Elizabethan Dark Moon" is a classic, considered by many to be the best of the album because it is full of amazingly inspired riffs, and also by the guest appearance of Gustavo Coimbra on vocals).

This also brings us on to Leo Mall'ack. whose Black Metal sound exerts a brilliant counterpoint to the heavy metal timbre of the group, creating a unique harmony in the metal world. Leo is undoubtedly one of the greatest vocalists on the scene today!

FINAL VEREDICT

"Walpurgisnacht" is one of the best albums released in the past year from the national metal scene.

Riveting from start to finish, it captivates both the most ardent fan of Black Metal and the one who lives for pure Heavy Metal.

The album has a striking cover with a simple but efficient layout that highlights what Elizabethan Walpurga does best:  Extreme music with originality that only Brazilian bands have.

Be sure to put this brilliant work in your collection!
